Nearly 90 Percent of Crimes Against Journalists Go Unpunished Worldwide
UNESCO is concerned that nearly 90 percent of crimes against journalists remain unpunished worldwide. This was stated in a recent announcement by UNESCO.
Overall, the organization has documented 894 cases of journalist murders from 2010 to 2019, averaging nearly 90 killings per year. The highest rate was noted in Latin America and the Caribbean, where 22 journalists were killed. The second and third highest rates were reported in Asia-Pacific countries and Arab states, with 15 and 10 murders, respectively.
