«Haykakan Zham» – Are There Facts or Is It a Show? Tracing the Special Operation in Aragatsotn Province
«Haykakan Zham» reports: “On January 16, the Armenian police conducted a special operation in Aragatsotn province, detaining individuals with various suspicions, considered to be associated with criminal subculture. In the published video, the faces of individuals are not visible, nor is it clear why they are being detained, degrading the dignity of citizens. Ultimately, a question arises: how did the police know these individuals were criminal and not, for example, part of a literary subculture? Are there facts, or is this just a show?”
The newspaper attempted to get answers to these questions from the acting police chief Arman Sargsyan. “Not only in Aragatsotn province but generally, the preventive work being carried out is based on operational data. I am not a fan of shows at all... The attitude of these people towards criminal phenomena must change. Such actions are taken to change their perceptions, so they ultimately understand that being a criminal is not a good thing,” said Sargsyan.
When we asked Sargsyan what fate awaits him, as he has two months left in his role, he replied, “I will serve the state with high dedication until my last day. I have served in the police for about 25 years.”
