It’s Amazing Who’s Speculating on Who’s Next: Makunts on Social Media Comments After Kutoyan’s Death
Member of Parliament and leader of the "My Step" faction, Lilit Makunts, commented today during a conversation with journalists in the parliament regarding Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan's absence of condolences related to the death of former NSS Director Georgi Kutoyan and his non-participation in the memorial service.
“The Prime Minister has sent his condolences to the Kutoyan family, and certain representatives of the government were present at the farewell ceremony, while those individuals who did not participate, including the Prime Minister, should not be the subject of speculation,” said Lilit Makunts.
It should be noted that 168.am sent an inquiry to the Public Relations Department of the Government of Armenia one day after Georgi Kutoyan's death, on January 18, asking why the Prime Minister did not express condolences regarding Georgi Kutoyan's passing. In response to the inquiry, the Prime Minister's condolences were provided.
“The Prime Minister expresses sorrow for the death of every citizen and conveys his condolences to every grieving family. The Prime Minister mourns the death of Georgi Kutoyan and extends his condolences to the grieving Kutoyan family. He also assures that the government will do everything within its powers to fully disclose the circumstances surrounding Georgi Kutoyan's death,” the statement said.
Addressing the comments circulating on social media after Georgi Kutoyan's death, suggesting that the next would be Constitutional Court Judge Hrayr Tovmasyan, Lilit Makunts replied: “It’s even more surprising to me who is speculating on who will be next. Such formulations are unacceptable to me; we all need to show restraint not only concerning this incident but in general,” noted Lilit Makunts.
It should be recalled that on January 17, the body of former NSS head Georgi Kutoyan was found in an apartment on Paruir Sevak Street in Yerevan with a gunshot wound.
