Date of Artsakh's Nationwide Elections Announced

On January 20, 2020, the Chairperson of the Central Election Commission of the Republic of Artsakh, Serbukh Arzumanyan, made an announcement through Artsakh Public Radio and Public Television regarding the date for the upcoming presidential and National Assembly elections. The key points of her message are presented below.

“Dear compatriots, according to Article 89, Part 1 of the Constitution of the Republic of Artsakh, the regular presidential elections are held 50 days before the expiration of the president's powers. In accordance with Article 109 of the Constitution of the Republic of Artsakh, the regular elections of the National Assembly are held simultaneously with the presidential elections. Following Article 97, Part 2, and Article 121, Part 2 of the Election Code of the Republic of Artsakh, the Chairperson of the Central Election Commission is required to announce the date of the presidential and National Assembly elections via public radio and television no later than 70 days before the day of voting.

Guided by the aforementioned provisions of the Constitution and the Election Code, the date for the presidential and National Assembly elections of the Republic of Artsakh is declared as March 31, 2020. Based on Part 3 of Article 97 of the Election Code of the Republic of Artsakh, the voting day for the nationwide elections, March 31, 2020, Tuesday, is declared a non-working day.”
