Vahe Gevorgyan, a member of Yerevan's council from the My Step faction, has written on his Facebook page: "The maternity hospitals are not being closed by the ministry, nor can they be. The ministry states that if the hospital has barn-like conditions or fails to ensure minimal technical and staffing prerequisites, we will not provide state orders until you meet the minimum standards. The responsibility for meeting these standards lies with the regional administration. For those who have not visited the Yeghvard maternity hospital, go and see if you would want to lie down in such conditions. This is especially pertinent when, for months, it has been stated that the issue should be resolved, yet nothing has been done by the authorities. Now I hear statements from certain regional governors in the style of 'we are with the people,' and I don’t understand who they are blaming for doing a bad job. This information vacuum is leading to poor outcomes; information is presented insufficiently or too late, and people do not understand who is responsible for what, often selecting the wrong targets for their criticism."
