Tragic Accident in Ararat Province Claims Lives

Today, on January 17, a severe and tragic car accident occurred in Ararat Province. At approximately 18:00, the driver of an Opel Astra with license plate 36 GR 394 collided with iron barriers on the Yerevan-Yeraskh highway at the 34 km mark under unknown circumstances, proceeded about 20 meters forward, and then crashed into a column of an iron advertising board.

According to photo journalist Gagik Shamshyan at the scene, the impact split the vehicle in half and sent debris flying in different directions. As a result of the accident, two individuals with critical injuries were extracted from the vehicle with the help of bystanders and were transported to the Artashat medical center.

While Senior Investigator Margar Margaryan from the 1st battalion of the 2nd police company was working at the scene, the hospital reported that the injured, despite being in the intensive care unit, had not regained consciousness and had tragically passed away.

Witnesses at the scene mentioned that the car's owner was in the Russian Federation and that the car had been taken without permission by his 16-year-old son. One of the deceased has been identified as 19-year-old Hayk Sargsyan, a resident of the Banavan neighborhood in Ararat city, known for the extraction of gold.
