Simonyan and Colleagues Shocked by News of Former NSS Director Georgi Kutoyan's Death

Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly and member of the 'My Step' faction Alen Simonyan expressed his condolences to the relatives of Georgi Kutoyan, the former director of the National Security Service (NSS), in a conversation with reporters. He noted that he had learned about the incident from the media and cannot make any comments at this time.

Simonyan expressed confidence that the details of the event would become clearer soon. In response to the observation that Georgi Kutoyan, as the former NSS director, may have held many sensitive pieces of information, Simonyan emphasized that the matter pertains to a human life, irrespective of the position held. He stated, 'I do not think that during his time at the NSS, he bore such a heavy burden. Suicide or murder provides grounds for different conclusions. I suggest we wait for the commentary from the investigative body.'

According to Simonyan, this incident can be viewed as a response from the past, which reaches them in this manner. 'We need to draw conclusions. It seems to me that there is a negative process happening that goes by without our involvement, and I regret that this process costs people their lives,' said Simonyan.

It is worth noting that earlier today, the body of former NSS chief Georgi Kutoyan was discovered in an apartment on Paruyr Sevak Street in Yerevan with a gunshot wound. Kutoyan was appointed as the director of the National Security Service following the dismissal of Gorik Hakobyan. He was 39 years old and held the title of First Class Legal Advisor.
