No Information on Gas Price Increase at This Time, Says Alen Simonian

Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Alen Simonian informed reporters after a meeting with the members of the 'My Step' faction and Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan that there is currently no information regarding a gas price increase.

It was previously reported that 'Gazprom Armenia' does not rule out the possibility of revising the gas tariff in the near future. In response to journalists' inquiries regarding the increase in gas prices, Alen Simonian stated: 'There is no new information regarding the increase in gas prices. I can reiterate what Deputy Prime Minister Mher Grigoryan announced, which is that discussions regarding the gas price are currently ongoing.'

He noted that the information they possess about the gas tariff remains unchanged. Remember, at the end of 2019, it was reported that 'Gazprom Export' LLC and 'Gazprom Armenia' LLC signed an additional agreement for the supply of Russian gas, under which the price of gas sold to Armenia in 2020 would not change and would remain at the 2019 level.

Currently, the gas tariff at the border of Armenia is $165 per 1000 cubic meters. On January 1, 2019, the price was $150 for 1000 cubic meters at the border. This might be the reason why 'Gazprom Armenia' intends to raise the price of gas for consumers as well. It is noteworthy that gas reaches consumers at a price of nearly $290 per 1000 cubic meters.
