Eugene Papazian, a Survivor of the Armenian Genocide, Passes Away in Canada

Asbarez.com reports that on January 14, Eugene Papazian, one of the survivors of the Armenian Genocide, passed away in Toronto, Canada at the age of 104.

Born in Turkey in 1915, she never saw her parents. Her father went to the army in 1915 and never returned, while her mother died shortly after her birth. Following the mass deportations of Armenians in 1915, her family fled to the mountains, where her mother, who was pregnant at the time, gave birth to Eugene in a ravine. The woman was advised to leave the newborn by the roadside, as difficult times were anticipated. However, she refused, stating that it would be a great sin against God. Unfortunately, shortly after giving birth, she succumbed to exhaustion.

Eugene Papazian had a large extended family, but she never met any of her relatives, as she ended up in an orphanage after her mother's death. This marked the beginning of Papazian's odyssey through orphanages in Greece. Eventually, she was adopted by an Armenian couple who brought her to Cairo, where she met her future husband and married at the age of 15.
