The Armenian Community in Lebanon on the Brink of Extinction

The newspaper 'Zhhamanak' reports: 'The political and economic crisis in Lebanon continues. The Lebanese currency continues to depreciate, losing approximately 50 percent in just one month. There is no dollar available in banks, and inflation is setting endless new records.

The Armenian community in Lebanon, the oldest among the diaspora communities and regarded as the Mother Community, stands on the brink of complete extinction. Armenians from Lebanon and Syrian Armenians living in Lebanon are mass applying to the Canadian embassy in the country for relocation to Canada. According to our Lebanese sources, Canada warmly welcomes families that are young and have two or more children. As painful as it is, no one is considering returning to Armenia.'
