NSS Reveals 85 Tons of Aviation Fuel Theft Case

The National Security Service of Armenia, among its various functions, has received factual data regarding the theft of aviation fuel while supporting the combat readiness and preparedness of the Armed Forces. This action was carried out as part of operational-investigative activities and investigative actions authorized by law. A group of servicemen from the Ministry of Defense's military unit numbered had allegedly stolen and sold approximately 85 tons of aviation fuel, valued at over 40 million AMD, which had been allocated for planned training flights, between July and December 2019.

While under the supervision of the NSS operational divisions, the NSS employees thwarted the criminal actions of the suspects when they attempted to remove 640 liters of aviation fuel from the military unit's territory and hand it over to a buyer. Those caught in the act confessed to their crime.

A criminal case has been opened in the investigative department of the NSS in accordance with the relevant articles of the Criminal Code. The case has been transferred to the Investigative Committee of Armenia for further examination according to investigative jurisdiction.

Note: A person suspected or accused of a crime is considered innocent until proven guilty in accordance with the procedures established by the Criminal Procedure Code of Armenia, with a legally effective court judgment.
