Hayk Marutyan Proposes to Refute False Claims or Present Evidence

The press secretary of the Mayor of Yerevan, Hakob Karapetyan, made a post on his Facebook page: ‘Hayk Marutyan proposes to refute false claims or present evidence. We remember the flood of misinformation related to the municipality's activities towards the end of 2019. Particularly, from the end of September, after the fundamental solution to the waste collection issue, various figures and certain media outlets had launched a campaign of misinformation and rumors related to the mayor and the municipality’s activities. In particular, the uproar regarding gifts given to the city on the principles of business social responsibility, we all remember that too.’

“On December 4, 2019, MP and leader of the 'Bright Armenia' faction, Edmon Marukyan, stated on the 1in.am broadcast, claiming that he had ‘made a revelation’ by saying that the donor companies did not purchase the Kamaz trucks themselves but instead ‘paid the municipality, and the municipality bought them, money, money was given to the municipality... And how do we know how much they gave, how much they took them for? Maybe, say, they gave 1 million dollars and bought the Kamaz trucks for 800 thousand.’ (Links in comments)

A similar statement was made by David Khajakyan, the head of the ‘Light’ faction in the Yerevan Council, during the broadcast of Radio Azatutyun on December 23. Moreover, both distinguished figures did not present any evidence to support their statements. They could not present any because the statements mentioned above are essentially misinformation.

Today, Mayor Hayk Marutyan sent official letters to Mr. Edmon Marukyan and David Khajakyan, suggesting they either refute the mentioned claims or present corresponding documentary evidence.
