Donald Trump's Trial to Take Place in the Senate

The Speaker of the U.S. House of Representatives, Nancy Pelosi, has transferred the articles of impeachment against President Donald Trump to the Senate. Following his impeachment in the House, Trump’s court case will now be heard in the upper chamber.

According to "Voice of America," this issue was discussed for four weeks in the Democrat-controlled House of Representatives.

Adam Schiff, the chairman of the House Intelligence Committee, and his counterpart from the Judiciary Committee, Jerrold Nadler, will also participate in Trump’s trial in the Senate. Nadler indicated that new documents confirming the President's guilt had been discovered and additional witnesses had come forward.

The Democrats will attempt to prove that Trump abused the powers entrusted to him when he urged the President of Ukraine to intervene in the upcoming U.S. presidential elections during a phone call.

According to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, both sides will present their cases before the question of witnesses is discussed. Republican Senator John Kennedy stated that they will only announce whether there is a need to hear additional testimonies after listening to the evidence from both the prosecution and defense.

As for the White House, it is stated that the defense of President Trump will be so straightforward that the discussion in the Senate will conclude within two weeks at the latest. However, it is worth noting that the impeachment trial of Bill Clinton in 1999 took more than a month.

The trial of Trump in the Senate is set to begin today at 2:00 PM Washington time, with Chief Justice John Roberts taking the oath in the Senate, after which he will accept the oath from the senators.
