Tax Benefits for Police Officers on Border Duty: Discussion in Parliament
During a meeting of the Permanent Commission on Economic Issues of the National Assembly, the "Bright Armenia" faction introduced a proposal aimed at extending the benefits provided to military personnel to police officers who are deployed to the front lines for combat duty in accordance with established procedures and timelines.
"The calculations were based on the annual figures of combat duty carried out by each battalion of police forces at the front lines and the number of personnel in these units. It has also been taken into account that the internal troops serving on combat duty come from various regions of Armenia, and introducing tax benefits for them would not have a significant negative impact on the community budgets. Instead, this guarantees a fair approach to social guarantees for all military personnel," said Sarik Minasian, a member of the "Bright Armenia" faction.
The government opposed the proposal. Deputy Minister of Finance Arman Poghosyan presented the justification: "They do not perform this duty on the basis of obligation, and they receive additional remuneration for this service. The logic behind the existing benefits is not applicable to the proposed benefits in the bill," said Poghosyan.
With Babken Tunians' suggestion, the discussion of the draft was postponed.
