Prosecutor Requests Review of Manvel Grigoryan's Detention Conditions

“A complication has emerged regarding Manvel Grigoryan's health condition, which could lead to unpredictable consequences,” stated Gagik Harutyunyan, the head of the Expert Commission, during an extraordinary session at the Central and Norq-Mardakian courts of general jurisdiction in Yerevan.

“The examination has been time-consuming, and we have periodically monitored the health documentation recorded at the ‘Nairi’ medical center. An investigation was also carried out at the ‘Armenia’ hospital, and the main diagnoses coincided,” he added.

Harutyunyan noted that the issue concerns a disruption in heart rhythm: “This is an unexpected and sudden pathology, and related to the frequency of heart contractions, it could bring about unpredictable complications.”

During the session, the prosecuting attorney Vahe Dolmazyan inquired whether the diseases and complications present in Manvel Grigoryan coincide with the illnesses incompatible with detention as specified by the Government’s relevant decision. In response, Gagik Harutyunyan informed that the diseases partially coincide on two counts. This concerns stable disruption of heart rhythm and conduction, as well as the diagnosis of diabetes and insufficient blood circulation.

In response to the prosecutor's question regarding whether a person can be held in a correctional facility under such conditions, Gagik Harutyunyan answered negatively: “This is a matter of expertise, but based on my personal experience, I can say that a person cannot be in such condition in a correctional facility because the conditions do not meet such needs. Manvel Grigoryan currently requires being in an intensive care unit, which could allow for a positive outcome, but there is also a negative outcome.”

The prosecutor requested to review Manvel Grigoryan's detention conditions, asking that in the case of a change, a measure be chosen that ensures appropriate behavior from Grigoryan within the territory of the Republic of Armenia. The defense side joined the request, recalling that they had repeatedly voiced concerns about Grigoryan's deteriorating health.

The presiding judge left for the consultation room to make a decision. It is expected to be published today at 20:30.
