Over 120 People Killed Due to Avalanche in the Himalayas
Heavy snowfall in the Himalayas has triggered deadly avalanches. In recent days, the death toll from the avalanches has reached at least 70 people, with 55 fatalities reported in the Kashmir region and another 15 in Afghanistan, according to AP.
“In the Neelum Valley, 41 people have died due to the snow avalanche, and 14 more have lost their lives in other areas of the region,” stated Wasim Ud din, spokesperson for Pakistan's National Disaster Management Authority.
Prior to this, the Kashmir Emergency Services had declared a state of emergency in the affected areas. “Rescuers are struggling to reach remote villages,” he added.
Overall, since January 12, the total number of fatalities in Pakistan and India due to avalanches and heavy snowfall has risen to 126.
