Armenian Deminers Clear 124,000 Square Meters in Syria

Since February 8 until December 28, the deminers part of Armenia's humanitarian mission in Syria have cleared 124,000 square meters of land, while the group's doctors have provided assistance to over 8,500 patients regardless of age, gender, nationality, or religion.

"Syrian authorities regularly express their gratitude to Armenian specialists for saving many lives," the Humanitarian Demining and Expertise Center reported.

According to the source, specialists from the Humanitarian Demining and Expertise Center also conducted demining activities in Armenia during 2019, particularly in the settlements of David Bek and Korrnidzor in the Syunik region. Throughout the year, mine risk awareness specialists have carried out training sessions in schools in Yerevan and several regions. "Over 11,000 students have already mastered safety behavior rules."

According to an agreement reached recently between the Halabja Mine Action Center and partners from Croatia, children from Armenia's border communities and families affected by mines will travel to Croatia in 2020, combining their summer vacation with mine risk awareness training.

The Humanitarian Demining and Expertise Center will also continue the initiative 'WE ARE WITH YOU' in 2020. Next year, gifts will be sent to Syrian children, primarily consisting of stationery and school bags.
