Simone Martirosyan to Receive Olympic Gold Medal

Simone Martirosyan, the silver medalist from the 2016 Olympic Games, is set to receive an Olympic gold medal in the near future. This announcement was made today by the head coach of the Armenian men's weightlifting team, Pashik Alaverdyan.

“The International Weightlifting Federation informed us today that the champion of the 2016 Olympic Games, Ruslan Nuridinov, has tested positive for doping. This means that the aforementioned athlete must return the gold medal to the international federation. The president of the federation asked us if we wanted to receive the gold medal, as this would require reopening Simone Martirosyan’s doping tests. I responded that we are open to any checks you wish to conduct. The medal is expected to be awarded to Simone Martirosyan in January,” said Pashik Alaverdyan.

It is worth mentioning that in the 2016 Rio Olympic Games, Armenia won a gold medal through Greco-Roman wrestler Artur Aleksanyan.
