Prison Guards Smoked Marijuana with Inmates and Carried Leftovers Back

Two employees were discovered bringing various types of drugs into penitentiaries during operational measures conducted in two correctional institutions, as stated by the head of the Prison Service, Justice Major General Arthur Goyunyan, during a meeting with journalists today.

“In Armavir, a security department employee was caught bringing in 'lyrica' type drugs in the form of pills. Traces of 'Subutex' weighing about 4 grams and a large quantity of marijuana, approximately 300 grams, were also brought in by a security employee in Nubarashen,” said Goyunyan.

According to the head of the Prison Service, the information about the mentioned employees was provided to the NSS by the employees themselves.

But that's not all. Last night, an attempt was made to throw drugs into the territory of the 'Sevan' prison. “The attempt was unsuccessful. A significant amount of drugs was also discovered, and an inspection is underway,” said Goyunyan.

A month ago, Goyunyan revealed some details about a similar incident that occurred in the Armavir prison. He noted that the absurd and simultaneously shameful aspect of that story was that an inmate was transferred to the hospital under the pretext of receiving medical assistance, and during that time, he managed to contact his accomplices using the mobile phones of his escorts. They even brought marijuana to the hospital.

“Some smoked on the spot with the prison staff, and whatever was left, they took back to the prison. Our diligent employees had caught them, and they stripped our employees on the spot,” he said.

A criminal case has been initiated regarding this incident by the Prison Service, which has since been forwarded to the prosecutor's office, and from there to the Special Investigative Service. The pre-trial investigation continues.
