Drugs Hidden in Gyumri Kyalya: Arthur Goyunyan Provides Details
“As a result of operational measures in 2 out of 12 penal institutions, 2 employees have been detained—one from the security department of Armavir Penitentiary, and the other from Nubarashen Penitentiary,” said Arthur Goyunyan, Head of the Correctional Service of the Republic of Armenia, during a meeting with journalists on December 20.
According to him, employees of the Armavir and Nubarashen penal institutions have smuggled a large quantity of narcotics into the facilities. Numerous crimes have been uncovered thanks to the vigilance of the prison staff.
“And those uncovered are certainly not ‘small fish’, as sometimes said—on the contrary, they are quite significant catches. Yesterday's incident was such a case. In the past, we have had absurd cases of contraband, where attempts were made to smuggle drugs even with pigeons or drones. There was even an instance where drugs were hidden in a Gyumri kyalya and presented as a delivery. Such cases have also been excluded,” stated the head of the Correctional Service.
