Armenia Accelerates Implementation of Paris Agreement

On December 20, a roundtable discussion titled "Armenia Accelerates Implementation of Paris Agreement" was held in Yerevan, organized by the Ministry of Environment with the support of the UN Development Programme (UNDP). This was reported by the Information and Public Relations Department of the Ministry of Environment of Armenia.

The event was attended by Minister of Environment Erik Grigoryan, Minister of Economy Tigran Khachatryan, UN Resident Coordinator in Armenia Shombi Sharp, UNDP Resident Representative Dmitry Mariyasin, Head of the Political, Press and Information Section of the EU Delegation to Armenia Ekaterina Dorodnova, Head of International Cooperation/Assistance at the EU Delegation Andrea Bajgiolini, as well as the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of Romania Cornel Ionescu, the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Czech Republic Bedřich Kopeček, the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Poland Pavel Ceplak, the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Italy Vincenzo Del Monaco, the Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary Ambassador of the Republic of Lithuania Inga Stanite Tolučkienė, Deputy Head of the Federal Republic of Germany Klaus Wendelberger, Acting Chargé d'Affaires of the Kingdom of Sweden Birger Karlsson, Deputy Ministers of Environment Vardan Melikyan and Irina Ghaplanyan, and UNDP Climate Change Programme Coordinator D. Harutyunyan.

Opening remarks were made by Minister of Environment Erik Grigoryan and UNDP Resident Representative Dmitry Mariyasin. The Minister of Environment detailed Armenia's representation at COP25 and the expected actions regarding the commitments undertaken under the Convention.

The goal of the event is to discuss the Republic of Armenia’s commitments under the Convention and actions aimed at mitigating the impacts of climate change, enhancing resilience to it, as well as promoting the development of a low-emission and climate-resilient economy through the harmonization of legislation and policies, as a country in the Eastern Partnership and a stakeholder of the "EU for Climate" initiative.

During the discussion, topics addressed included those considered at the 25th Conference of the Parties (COP25) to the UN Framework Convention on Climate Change held in Madrid.
