Strengthening Armenian Studies is a Government Priority
Strengthening Armenian studies and their examination is a priority for us. This was stated by the Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports, Arayik Harutyunyan, during a cabinet meeting, adding that issues related to identity are considered a priority and work is underway to enhance Armenian studies in schools.
Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan emphasized that there is a preconceived notion in the general context that our children should not learn history, literature, or the Armenian language in school. “Later, when we somehow enroll our children in universities, we have to repeat the zero level course in engineering faculties again. This cannot be the case. Yes, let’s admit that proper history, literature, and Armenian language are not taught in our schools, and when last year the ministry proposed conducting a unified exam to check what is happening in our schools, the entire educational system erupted. Because it had to be clarified that the grades and knowledge existing in the records do not match,” said Nikol Pashinyan.
