Police Special Operation in Yerevan Results in Arrests
On December 18, the officers of the Main Directorate of Criminal Investigation of the Police, acting on operational intelligence, detained a 36-year-old resident of the Erebuni administrative district of Yerevan, R. P., on suspicion of illegal arms acquisition.
According to Shamshyan.com, a "Wolfer Waffen Fabrik Ulmido" pistol with a loaded magazine containing five bullets was found in his possession. Another person detained was 36-year-old E. A. from the same administrative district, who was found to have a single-barrel smoothbore hunting rifle marked "Bakacs-15m". Additionally, a 30-year-old resident of Yerevan, H. M., was found to possess a folding knife.
Photographer Gagik Shamshyan, reporting from the scene, noted that police officers discovered a submachine gun with a silencer in a polyethylene bag on the ground near house number 73 on Burnazyan Street, where the aforementioned individuals were detained. The arriving forensic expert found 25 rounds of "Makarov" type ammunition in the submachine gun's magazine.
Several citizens gathered at the scene, who refused to speak on camera, expressed to the media: "Good job, the police acted quickly and took those citizens away. Otherwise, we might have heard later that they shot at each other, and we know well that as a result, there could be casualties or injuries. This is a situation where we should thank the police for neutralizing armed individuals as a result of their operational actions. As for why they gathered, we’re not interested; what’s important is that the police arrived at the right time and place, and it didn’t escalate to gunfire. Otherwise, an innocent person could have been hit by a stray bullet."
