Girl Sold Directly from Maternity Hospital to Childless Couple

In 1988, L.M., born at the Republican Clinical Maternity Hospital, was sold directly from the maternity hospital to a couple who had been childless for many years. The biological mother of the child was told that her baby had been stillborn. This was shared with Aravot.am by the cousin of L.M.'s uncle. According to him, in 1988, Razmik Abrahamyan was the chief doctor of the maternity hospital.

“L.M.’s biological mother was told that her child had been stillborn. This woman already had four daughters, and L.M. was her fifth; her husband did not want a fifth daughter. The woman’s husband, mother-in-law, and father-in-law did not want the child and instructed the doctors at the maternity hospital to say that the child was stillborn, and that’s exactly what they did,” Harout Farisyann said in an interview with the news outlet.

According to the source from Aravot, the uncle’s wife was registered at the maternity hospital as pregnant, and they documented the delivery. “They didn’t even buy things from the store because, after all, it was a child; can you imagine that the chief doctor of the maternity hospital was not aware of all this? My uncle’s wife was in the hospital at that time; they documented that she was pregnant, and they presented it in such a way that L.M. was the child of my uncle's wife, with all the paperwork, and this was all done for money. I just can’t say how much they paid for the child,” he added.

It is worth noting that earlier it was reported that Razmik Abrahamyan, the director of the Republican Institute of Reproductive Health, Perinatology, Obstetrics, and Gynecology, was arrested on suspicion of illegally separating the child from the parents by prior agreement among a group of individuals.
