Casualties in Military Commissariat Collapse Are Conscripts and Their Parents, Says Defense Ministry Spokesman

The casualties include conscripts and their parents. This was stated by the spokesperson for the Armenian Ministry of Defense, Arzrun Hovhannisyan, in a recent interview with Auroranews, referring to the collapse that occurred in the two-story building of Military Commissariat No. 1 located at 19a Halabyan Street in Yerevan.

Hovhannisyan noted that the injured have been transported to various medical institutions: "They have no serious injuries; there is a suspicion that one person's leg is broken."

When asked about the cause of the collapse, he said, "It is an old building that was crowded with people trying to avoid the cold outside; that is probably the reason."

It is worth recalling that earlier today, on December 19, at 15:35, the 911 service received a call reporting a collapse at the Military Commissariat No. 1 located at 19a Halabyan Street in Yerevan, indicating that there were casualties and that rescue assistance was needed. Special rescue teams from the Ministry of Emergency Situations were dispatched to the scene, including two firefighting units from the city’s rescue department, operational and response groups from the National Center for Crisis Management, an instructor from the psychological support division, and a duty doctor from the Center for Disaster Medicine.

It was found that the floor of one of the first-floor rooms (approximately 25 square meters) had collapsed, leading to 11 casualties.
