“I Will Solve Your Problem”: Posing as a Police Officer, Man Steals Large Sums of Money from Citizen

The investigation into the case of a police officer impersonator who fraudulently stole significant amounts of money from a citizen has been completed by the Kankach-Zeytun division of the RA Investigative Committee.

A 45-year-old man has been charged in connection with the incident. According to factual data obtained by the Investigative Committee, the suspect, born in 1975, learned about a friend's expulsion from the Russian Federation and presented himself as an employee of the RA police. Under the pretext of legally facilitating this expulsion issue, he arranged to receive 1,000,000 AMD in exchange for addressing the matter. Between September 11 and October 15, 2019, he met with the victim multiple times and received the money in installments.

During one of these meetings, the suspect was unable to complete his fraudulent activities due to unforeseen circumstances and was apprehended by the RA NSS officers immediately after receiving another installment of money.

Based on sufficient evidence, the 45-year-old man has been charged under Article 34-178, Part 2, Point 2 and Article 317 of the RA Criminal Code. A signature not to leave has been chosen as a preventive measure for him.

The completion of the pre-trial investigation has been announced, and the criminal case, along with a request for the approval of the indictment, has been sent to the prosecutor overseeing the legality of the investigation.
