Clashes Between Protesters and Police in New Delhi, Batons and Tear Gas Deployed

The authorities in the Indian capital banned all large gatherings in the northeastern district of New Delhi on December 18, following mass unrest and protests against the new amendment to India's citizenship law. According to NDTV, this measure was taken to prevent potential new outbreaks of violence, reports TASS.

Enhanced security measures have also been implemented in other parts of the city. Reinforced police units are stationed at intersections and public squares.

On December 17, approximately two thousand protesters clashed with police in the northeastern region of Silampur, New Delhi. The demonstrators attempted to march towards the city center but were stopped by police. Participants in the rally began throwing stones and wooden objects at the authorities, prompting the police to deploy batons and tear gas in response.
