We Cannot Claim That the Child's Death Was Due to H1N1: Statement

A strain of influenza A, H1N1, has been detected in a child; however, we cannot claim that the child's death was due to it. This statement was issued by the 'Saint Astvatsamayr' Medical Center.

The statement specifically mentions: 'A 3-year-old girl has died in the village of Ararat in the Ararat region. A strain of influenza A, H1N1, has been identified in the child; however, we cannot assert that the death was caused by it. The parents did not seek medical assistance for nearly a month, and the child's condition deteriorated sharply due to home-based care measures.'

'The girl experienced severe febrile seizures, neuroinfections, and serious brain problems. She was transferred to the 'Ararat Hospital' medical center in a critical condition, where she fell into a coma and was subsequently moved to the 'Saint Astvatsamayr' Medical Center in extremely serious condition. The child exhibited symptoms of febrile seizures, high fever, and loss of consciousness, and was immediately hospitalized in the intensive care unit, where she was placed on a ventilator due to her condition.'

'Numerous tests were carried out, leading to a diagnosis of acute encephalitis polysinusitis, and H1N1 flu testing was conducted, which confirmed the presence of influenza A, type H1N1. Despite the identification of this subtype, the child was hospitalized due to acute encephalitis (fever seizures), hence it will only become clear after further investigations whether the child's death was caused by H1N1 or as a result of the acute encephalitis.'
