The investigative division of the Martuni police department is preparing materials regarding a fire incident that occurred yesterday, December 15, in the Gegharkunik region.
At around 11:30 PM, the emergency situations ministry's rescue service in Martuni received a call that the door of a house in the village of Geghovit was on fire. The alert was also passed to the Martuni police department.
According to photojournalist Gagik Shamshyan, an operational group from the Martuni police department, led by department head Stepan Hakobyan and deputy head Garik Gareginian, arrived at the scene.
It was revealed that the same day, around 11:00 PM, a resident of house number 12 on 1st Street in Geghovit, 29-year-old Anush Hakobyan, attempted to transfer oil from a plastic container to another container in front of a wooden stove in the living room when the flame from the stove ignited the oil-filled container, causing a fire that spread throughout the living room.
As a result of the fire, 61-year-old Astghik S. was hospitalized with “second-degree thermal burns and second-degree burn shock,” while 9-year-old Elen S. and 37-year-old Ern H. from the village of Haikashen in the Armavir region were hospitalized with “acute exogenous poisoning from carbon monoxide.” The Martuni firefighting and rescue squad arrived at the fire scene with one operational unit.
