Concerning Results in the Structure of the Gas Station Market: Gegham Gevorgyan
We have completed the study of the structure of the gas station market and the results are concerning; we will publish the complete findings in the coming days. This was stated by Gegham Gevorgyan, the head of the State Commission for the Protection of Economic Competition, in an interview with Tert.am.
“During the study, we addressed all the issues. However, we do not deal with gas pressure as there is a market regulatory inspection that checks pressure in accordance with the law. Regarding prices, we have drawn certain conclusions, although we have not identified any specific person's violations, as the market study is not focused on individuals, but rather sheds light on the grounds for potential proceedings,” he said.
Gegham Gevorgyan noted that the first concern was related to volumes, which provides a certain basis for concluding that there may have been shadow turnover in the past. “The second concerning issue was that during the transition period, prices significantly differed from production costs, and sales were made under unfavorable conditions, which raises suspicion. The third issue we noted was that the same price is observed across different producers, even though they are not operating under the same economic conditions,” he added.
The head of the Competition Protection Commission indicated that all these findings will be forwarded to the relevant authorities, and those within their jurisdiction will initiate proceedings against specific economic operators.
