‘Our government’s position has not changed’: US Embassy in Turkey
The US Embassy in Turkey has responded to the adoption of a resolution recognizing the Armenian Genocide by the US Senate on December 12, according to Ermenihaber.
The embassy’s press spokesperson stated in an interview with the Turkish state news agency 'Anadolu' that the US government's position has not changed following the adoption of this resolution.
“The position of the government has not changed. Our views were reflected in the last statement made by the president (Donald Trump) last April,” the spokesperson said.
It is noteworthy that on April 24, President Donald Trump referred to the atrocities committed against Armenians in 1915 not as genocide, but labeled it in Armenian as “the Great Massacre.”
Two of the three branches of the US government—the Congress and the Senate—have already recognized the Genocide.
