Only the Turkish Parliament Can Heal the Wounds of Armenians, Paylan

Only the Turkish parliament can heal the wounds of the Armenian people. This was stated by Karо Paylan, an Armenian member of the Turkish parliament, in a post on Twitter commenting on the U.S. Senate's adoption of a resolution recognizing the Armenian Genocide.

On December 12, the United States Senate unanimously adopted the S.Res.150 resolution that recognizes the Armenian Genocide.

“As the great crime committed in this region is not discussed here and justice is not reaffirmed here, it becomes a matter for the parliaments of other countries to discuss. The wounds of the Armenian people can only be healed by one parliament, and that is the Turkish parliament, of which I am a member,” Paylan wrote.

Turkey has already reacted negatively to the resolution passed by the Senate. Fahrettin Altun, the head of the Presidential Communications Directorate, stated that this resolution poses a threat to the bilateral relations between Ankara and Washington. Later, it was reported that U.S. Ambassador David Satterfield was summoned to the Turkish Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

It is worth mentioning that the Armenian Genocide that occurred in Ottoman Turkey is recognized as the first genocide of the 20th century. Despite this fact being acknowledged by numerous countries, Turkey, the successor of the Ottoman Empire, traditionally denies this fact and related accusations.
