NSS Reveals Case of Counterfeit Drug Production

The National Security Service of the Republic of Armenia, as part of its key activities aimed at combating crimes, has uncovered yet another case of counterfeit drug production and sale as a result of operational-investigative measures conducted by its operational units. This was reported by the NSS press service.

Specifically, based on data provided by the NSS to the State Health and Labor Inspection Body, on September 18, 2019, an administrative proceeding was initiated. In this framework, inspectors conducted a search at a pharmacy owned by an individual entrepreneur in Yerevan. As a result, "Fluconazole-Asteria" 150 mg N 2 type medication was discovered, which has been sent for analysis to one of the expert centers operating under the Ministry of Health of the Republic of Armenia.

According to the conclusion, the detected medication did not meet the requirements stipulated by the law on medicines in Armenia. In connection with this case, a criminal case has been initiated in the investigative department of the NSS under the relevant article.

The NSS once again urges business entities engaged in pharmacy activities to produce, import, distribute, release, sell, and use only those medications that are registered in the Republic of Armenia, except in a number of cases specified by the law on medicines.

These measures carried out by the National Security Service will be ongoing to prevent similar cases in the future.
