Gyumri’s Sheko Arrested
Gyumri businessman Garik Uzunyan, also known as Sheko, has been charged under Article 258 of the RA Criminal Code, specifically part 3, point 1 (hooliganism committed by a group of individuals or an organized group), and the same article, part 3, point 5 (hooliganism characterized by exceptional cynicism). As a preventive measure, detention has been chosen. This was reported to Haykakan Jamanak by Prosecutor Karen Gabrielian.
A second individual, Zohrab Yesimseytov, has also been charged under Article 258, part 3, point 1 (hooliganism committed by a group of individuals or an organized group).
“A motion regarding the second individual has been submitted to the court, and it is currently under discussion,” the prosecutor stated.
In the criminal case initiated, the victim and his girlfriend have been recognized as injured parties. It is reported that Sheko is accused of assaulting a friend of MP Karen Sarukhanyan in Gyumri.
This incident began with a Facebook post on December 7 concerning a wreath placed in Gyumri in memory of the victims of the earthquake, allegedly sent by the second President of Armenia, Robert Kocharyan. “Today there were publications that the second president sent a wreath in memory of the victims of the earthquake. I haven't seen it, but I can imagine the faces of those people and the shivering of their bodies while delivering that wreath. I don’t wish this upon anyone, but this is Gyumri; this is not the pizza fields you have planted and propagated, guys. This is Gyumri, and a Gyumri man knows how to punish. To walk openly in Gyumri, you must earn it; you must share the pains of Gyumri over the years with facts, not with a wreath,” Karen Sarukhanyan wrote on December 7.
On December 8, Sarukhanyan revealed on the same platform that the post had caused retaliation and beatings. According to Sarukhanyan, Sheko assaulted his friend and conveyed that he would be next.
Then, on December 9, Sheko was apprehended by the police department of Mush and arrested as a suspect.
