Prosecutor's Office Provides Details on Incident Involving Mother Who Attempted Self-Immolation Outside Government

The son of Maryanush Yeranosyan, who attempted self-immolation outside the government building, has suffered bodily injuries resulting from an accident that occurred on April 22, 2019. This information was provided by the press service of the Prosecutor's Office.

Recall that today, December 12, a protest was held by citizen Maryanush Yeranosyan in front of the Government Building. She expressed her outrage regarding the investigation being conducted by the Road Traffic Crimes Investigation Department of the RA Investigative Committee into the accident involving her son, Hakob Yeranosyan.

In light of public interest, we report that on April 22, 2019, at approximately 02:00, a driver named Samvel Hovhannisyan, operating a Mercedes-Benz vehicle entrusted to him, left the roadway in front of 43 Shiraz Street in Yerevan, collided with roadside curb stones, and then struck the wall of a building. As a result, passenger Hakob Martik Yeranosyan sustained bodily injuries, and he was transported to one of the medical centers operating in Yerevan.

A criminal case was initiated on May 22, 2019, by the RA Police's Traffic Police 1st Troop regarding this incident, under Article 242, Part 1 of the RA Criminal Code, and forwarded to the Traffic Accident Investigation Division of the Yerevan Investigative Department of the RA Investigative Committee for preliminary investigation.

A decision was made to recognize Hakob Martik Yeranosyan as a victim in the criminal case. During the preliminary investigation, based on a request and accompanying documents submitted by Hakob Martik Yeranosyan's wife, Tsoghik Barseghyan, a decision was made on August 9, 2019, to recognize Ts. G. Barseghyan as the legal successor of the victim.

According to the conclusion of forensic examination No. 1208/h, the bodily injuries of Hakob Martik Yeranosyan, according to medical documents and data from the objective examination, include soft tissue lacerations of the frontal area, lacerated wounds, fractures of the skull base, and bones of the frontal skull, severe contusion with the formation of contused hemorrhagic foci, brain stem damage, and contused hemorrhagic foci, subarachnoid hemorrhage, brain edema, and fractures of the paired bones of the right forearm, caused by blunt objects, which likely indicated a combination of circumstances that resulted in severe harm to health, posing a danger to life.

On May 29, 2019, Samvel Melik Hovhannisyan was charged under Part 1 of Article 242 of the RA Criminal Code, and on the same day, a signature was chosen as a preventive measure to ensure he would not flee.

It has been established as a result of investigative and other procedural actions that Hakob Yeranosyan sustained bodily injuries due to an accident that occurred on April 22, 2019, at approximately 02:00, in front of 43 Shiraz Street in Yerevan.
