EU Commission Enforces Enhanced Oversight of Armenia's Civil Aviation Committee
The European Commission has announced that it has placed the Civil Aviation Committee of Armenia under enhanced oversight.
"The Armenian Civil Aviation Committee has been subjected to strengthened supervision due to signs of a decline in the oversight of flight safety provisions," the European Commission stated in its announcement. The reasons for concern were not specified in the Commission's statement.
According to FlightGlobal, the European Union Aviation Safety Agency (EASA) identified deficiencies in oversight during a visit to Taron Avia and Atlantis European Airways in July 2019. Following EASA's findings, Taron Avia's certification was revoked, leading the carrier to subsequently decide to cease operations.
It was also noted that when renewing the certifications of these two companies, the Civil Aviation Administration systematically failed to adhere to all certification processes.
The European Commission has updated the list of flight safety, which includes airlines that do not meet international safety standards.
