Thieves Identified in Kotayk Province Robbery
On December 6, police officers from the Kotayk regional department apprehended 27-year-old Artyom Hovhannisyan, 21-year-old Andranik Khlygatiyan, and 27-year-old Gurgen Mesropyan in Shirak Province. Prior to this, they arrested 23-year-old Edgar Khurshudyan in Abovyan. According to SHAMSHYAN.com, the apprehended individuals were found in an Opel vehicle, which contained stolen goods and masks.
They, along with Khurshudyan, are suspected of committing an armed robbery on December 6. Reportedly, the suspects entered a house on 5th Street of Mayakovski village at around 5:20 PM, where they threatened 75-year-old Manya Kh. with weapons, stealing gold jewelry, money, a valuable watch, and then fleeing the scene. The criminals caused approximately 2 million drams in damages to the elderly woman.
The operation was named “Thieves Shouldn’t Be at Home, the Ox Won't Be Taken from the Roof” because, while forensic experts were working at the crime scene, police and investigators, using their skilled 'scent' of law, concluded that the grandmother would have only opened the door to people she knew. They were convinced that a family member might be involved in the incident. Reports indicate that Edgar Khurshudyan is the grandson of Manya Kh.
All four members of the group have been arrested. It has also been revealed that this gang has committed several similar robberies, including one at the 24-hour “Bokonik” shop in the Davitashen administrative district of Yerevan, one at a “Flash” petrol station in Yerevan, another in Abovyan city, and one in Armavir Province.
