Georgy Loretsyan, His Driver, and the President of a Football Club Arrested
The Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport of Armenia, Georgy Loretsyan, his driver, and the president of one of the football clubs operating in Armenia have been charged with suspicion of accepting large-scale bribes. According to Armenpress, this was announced by the press center of the National Security Service (NSS).
“Charges have been filed against the Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport, his driver, and the president of a football club operating in Armenia. The court has chosen detention as a measure of restraint against them,” the NSS press center stated.
Recall that as part of the implementation of functions aimed at combating corruption, large-scale operational measures were taken by the employees of the National Security Service, resulting in the arrest on December 4, 2019, of Deputy Minister Georgy Loretsyan, his driver, and the president of a football club operating in Armenia, who also serves as the actual leader of several supplier companies.
According to initial data obtained, the Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sport allegedly reached an agreement to receive a large-scale bribe in exchange for providing support to the mentioned economic operator during announced competitions for the procurement of sports equipment and apparel needed for the ministry’s subordinate institutions, with the assistance of his driver. Immediately after a portion of the money was transferred to the minister's deputy's driver by the operator, they were apprehended.
The materials prepared regarding the apparent crime have been transferred to the investigative department of the NSS of Armenia.
