When Can a Student Benefit from the Right to Partial Tuition Payment?
The Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sport of the Republic of Armenia has issued a statement informing about which categories of students enrolled in higher education institutions can benefit from the right to partial reimbursement of tuition fees (discounts) and to what extent.
According to Article 6, Part 4.1 of the Law on Higher and Postgraduate Professional Education of the Republic of Armenia, “The higher education institution, with its own funds, will provide partial reimbursement of tuition fees in the form of student benefits to at least 10% of its students studying on a fee basis, based on their academic performance and social group, for at least 7% of the budget formed from students’ tuition fees.”
Students from the following categories can receive assistance:
- Socially disadvantaged students (students from families with a poverty score above the poverty threshold) - at least 30%
- Students who are without parental care after turning 18 until they reach the age of 23 - at least 50%
- One-parent students under 23 years of age - at least 50%
- Students with children under one year old - at least 50%
- Students from families with three or more minor children or three or more students - at least 30%
- Students with a 1st or 2nd group disability, including those with disabled veteran parents - at least 30%
- Students who have completed mandatory military service in combat duty units - at least 30%
- Socially disadvantaged students (students from families registered in the poverty assessment system with a score above 0) - at least 20%
The ministry provides clear criteria and guidelines for students to understand their rights regarding tuition fee reimbursement.
