Prison Service Discovers Large Number of Prohibited Items During Searches
The structural subdivisions of the penitentiary service of the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Armenia continue to implement complex measures aimed at properly addressing their assigned tasks, as well as ensuring compliance with internal regulations by detained individuals and convicts within correctional facilities.
According to the Public Relations Department of the Armenian Ministry of Justice's penitentiary service, on December 6, 2019, between 12:00 PM and 4:00 PM, officers from the penitentiary service and the security subdivision of the ‘Armavir’ penitentiary conducted unplanned searches within the premises, cells, and other buildings of the same correctional facility in order to uncover prohibited items and substances held by detainees and convicts.
As a result of these searches, a significant number of prohibited items were discovered and removed from illegal circulation, including 9 mobile phones, 1 wi-fi device, 1 smart watch, 33 cutting and piercing tools, 1 USB cable, headphones, and a bag secured with a rope for transferring items.
On the same day, at around 4:50 PM, employees of the ‘Vanadzor’ penitentiary service discovered a half pill of unknown origin in the pocket of the trousers of the visitor G. M., who had come for a brief meeting with convict A. K. Operational data regarding the incident is being prepared, and a forensic chemical examination has been appointed.
