Judges Express Discontent: Who Is Trusted with Their Purification?
The newspaper 'Zhoghavorud' reports: 'The Corruption Prevention Commission has replaced the Ethics Commission for High-Ranking Officials, which is also tasked with checking the judges' morality, but the criteria are still unclear.
Recently, many judges have expressed discontent in internal discussions about who is entrusted with the purification of the third authority. They are concerned about a commission led by a chairperson who has worked with grant funding, meaning they were compensated not for their performance but had previously received a grant and were following the political line of the provider.
Moreover, the judges are convinced that there is an agenda to suspend not just 30-50 percent but the entire judicial authority, which would disrupt the smooth functioning of the third authority.
In this context, the 'Zhoghavorud' daily spoke with the commission's chairperson, Haikuhi Harutyunyan, who countered: 'The government of Armenia has also received grants, as did the Justice Council and the Supreme Judicial Council in the past... so does the judicial authority consider this relevant to them?' She reminded that their focus is solely on reviewing declarations.'
