Serzh Sargsyan Does Not Recognize Himself as Guilty: Political Persecution Against Him, Claims His Defender Amram Makyunyan

Amram Makyunyan, the defender of the third President of Armenia, Serzh Sargsyan, presented several facts before discussing the validity of the charges against his client. According to him, last Friday, the Special Investigative Service sent a notice to summon Serzh Sargsyan as a witness for questioning at 13:30 today, as reported by tert.am.

“It was clearly stated what the procedural status of the person is, which is conditioned by the fact that the legislator obliges the investigator to fix the procedural status before summoning the person for questioning,” Makyunyan stated.

According to the lawyer, when Serzh Sargsyan appeared for questioning, the investigator informed him that he would be questioned regarding the suspicion against him. “When we were informed of this fact, a very serious legal issue arose. Because Serzh Sargsyan was to be asked questions regarding certain actions taken during his tenure due to his official position. The amendments to the Constitution of the Republic of Armenia in 2005 and 2015 grant the President immunity. In that situation, the body conducting the proceedings should have had a question: whether the president's immunity has been overcome or not,” said the lawyer.
