12,000 Children in Georgia Do Not Attend School, Says UNICEF

12,000 children in Georgia do not attend school, according to data from the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF), as reported by Georgian Public Television.

“UNICEF, the UN Development Programme, and the Government of Bulgaria are working closely to ensure that children are able to attend school, as currently, 12,000 children in Georgia do not. We urge the Ministry of Education, Science, Culture, and Sport of Georgia to collaborate with UNICEF to help those children who are not attending school,” said Hasan Khalil, a representative of UNICEF in Georgia.

According to him, it is vital for these children to learn at school, as education is a fundamental right, and children should benefit from this right.

A two-year program has been launched in Georgia to include these children in the educational process. The Government of Bulgaria will assist together with UNICEF in implementing this program.
