Mkhitaryan Misses Another Game for Roma; Expected to Play Next Match
The return of Armenia’s national football team captain Henrikh Mkhitaryan has once again been postponed. The midfielder was not included in the squad for yesterday’s Serie A home match against Brescia on November 24, which his team won 3-0.
After the match, Roma's head coach Paulo Fonseca addressed Mkhitaryan's absence: “He has been training with us since the beginning of the week. This is his eighth week of recovery. He will be with us for the next game, although he still needs to continue improving,” said the coach.
Mkhitaryan sustained a groin injury during the Serie A sixth round match against Lecce on September 29. It was expected that he would return in three weeks, but the recovery has been prolonged. He has missed several matches for both the Armenian national team and Roma.
Roma's next game is on Thursday, November 28, when they will host Istanbul Başakşehir in the fifth round of the 2019-20 UEFA Europa League group stage. With two rounds left in the group stage, the Turkish team is currently leading Group J with 7 points. Roma is in third place with 5 points, while Borussia Mönchengladbach is second with the same number of points but ahead on tiebreakers. Wolfsberger rounds out the table with 4 points.
