Victoria’s Secret Cancels Annual Fashion Show for the First Time Amid Audience Decline

Victoria’s Secret has canceled its annual lingerie fashion show for the first time in 25 years. Over the past few years, the Victoria’s Secret Fashion Show has continued to lose its audience. This information was reported by Fortune, citing Stuart Burgdorfer, the financial director of L Brands, the brand’s parent company.

“Although the show was an event in pop culture for a certain period, it has lost viewers in recent years,” Burgdorfer stated, adding that the show has no impact on commercial metrics.

In recent years, Victoria’s Secret has recorded a decline in sales. In the last quarter, sales decreased by 7 percent compared to a 2 percent decline during the same period last year. With the exception of a slight increase recorded in the first quarter of 2018, Victoria’s Secret’s retail sales have decreased in every reporting period since late 2016.

Experts suggest that this decline may be related to the brand becoming less aligned with the ideals of women from the so-called #MeToo generation.
