The Universe Presented in All Its Infinite Beauty at a New Exhibition at Martiros Saryan's House Museum

The exhibition titled "The Universe and Brushes: Depicting Earth" features works by astronaut-pilot Vladimir Janibekov, astronaut-artist Alexei Leonov, Nikol Stotty, Martiros Saryan, Tigran Manakyan, and Tamara Ter-Gevondyan. The solemn opening ceremony of the exhibition took place on November 22 at Martiros Saryan's House Museum.

“Saryan, who created the painting 'Earth', was connected to the astronauts. He met Leonov in 1969. They were completely devoted to the planet Earth. Saryan, who has never left our planet, depicted the Earth in his painting as Leonov saw it from space. The main idea of the exhibition is precisely that: there are artists who, although they have not been in space, paint the Earth as it would look from there, and there are astronauts who are not artists, but, having seen that beauty from above, return to Earth and paint it,” said the director of the house museum, Rouzan Saryan.

The exhibition's opening was attended by astronaut-pilot, twice Hero of the Soviet Union, and aviation major general Vladimir Janibekov. He admitted that he has yet to see a painting that conveys what a person sees and perceives when in space. “Leonov was indeed a professional artist. Many of his works are quite close to reality, but even he often said that no painting or tool is capable of conveying reality,” emphasized Janibekov.

The astronaut confessed that he misses space a lot but loves our planet. He urged to cherish and preserve the incredibly beautiful Earth, which is undergoing many trials. The exhibition will be open until January 26.
