Tensions Rise in Ararat Region: Former Governor Attempts to Exploit Quarry

«Ժողովուրդ» newspaper reports that tensions are escalating in the Ararat region. The situation is particularly tense in communities where upcoming consolidations will occur.

The issue lies in the fact that each community leader is trying to claim land that has remained unowned up to now. According to the newspaper, the situation is becoming uncontrollable in the village of Metsadzor.

Here, with the knowledge of the Republican Party member and 12-year village head Majit Amoyan, a plan is in place to exploit a tuff quarry, with the operator being former Ararat region governor Sargis Sahakyan. For a considerable time, machinery has been brought to Metsadzor to drill boreholes.

In a conversation with the newspaper, former governor Sahakyan stated that he has not visited the village in the past three years and is hearing this information for the first time. He said, “I do not know what the village head and his relatives have done in the community, but the information related to me and my family is absurd. I have not visited the village; I have not seen the village head; I have only seen him once by chance.”
