Merkel Anticipates Friendly Ties with Russia

The Chancellor of Germany, Angela Merkel, has discussed the importance of establishing friendly relations with Russia. She made this statement during a conference of the Christian Democratic Union party.

According to her, this aligns with Germany's interests, despite the difficulties that have arisen.

Merkel had also addressed the necessity of friendly relations with Russia back in July. Russian officials commented on her statement, with Dmitry Novikov, deputy head of the State Duma's Foreign Affairs Committee, noting that Merkel is a pragmatic politician and that Germany is among the countries interested in economic ties with Russia, as it seeks to ensure guaranteed imports of energy resources. According to Novikov, Merkel occupies a sensible position based on pragmatic interests.
