Kotayk Police Uncover Dozens of Residential Burglary Cases and Attempts

In Abovyan and the nearby Mayakovski village, more than ten residential burglaries and attempted break-ins were reported in the last two months. Some victims approached the police, while others did not. Criminal cases have been initiated. Law enforcement officials were making every effort to find the perpetrator.

The first incident was recorded at the Kotayk police station on October 2. An unknown individual, or possibly individuals, used an improvised tool to open a window of one of the houses on Kotayk Street and, according to the victim's statement, stole 800,000 drams and 80,000 dollars from the bedroom.

Upon receiving the alert, an operational group arrived at the scene and drew up the necessary reports. Measures were being taken to establish the facts when, on October 11, a new alert came from the same street. While trying to open a window with an improvised tool, the glass was broken, and gold and silver jewelry were stolen from one bedroom while money was taken from another.

Police officers who went to Kotayk Street examined the crime scene, documenting where and what had been stolen. They spoke with the victim, who had only been away from home for 40 minutes...

Days later, another alert for a residential burglary came from Kotayk Street. Taking advantage of the homeowners' absence, someone entered through the window and stole gold jewelry from the living room cupboard. About a week later, there was an attempt to commit theft from a house on Saralanj Street in the same manner, but for various reasons, they could not complete the act.

In November, three more attempted burglaries were registered at the Kotayk police department. Two occurred in Abovyan, and one in Mayakovski village. Analyzing the incidents, the officers of the Kotayk police department were trying to understand the differences and commonalities among the burglaries. It was decided to strengthen cooperation between the criminal investigation and community policing departments in order to enhance communication with residents.

The methodology was the same: the criminal entered through the window and specifically stole money and gold. Various hypotheses were proposed and checked. The combination of information and facts suggested that the residential burglaries and attempted break-ins might have been committed by a 32-year-old resident of Mayakovski village, who had been previously convicted for residential burglaries and had been released from the penitentiary months earlier.

After verifying the information obtained, on November 19, in a joint operation with the regional division of the Kotayk police, criminal investigators apprehended the suspect from Mayakovski village and brought him to the Kotayk police station. Subsequent actions revealed that during October and November, the 32-year-old man had committed two more residential burglaries and one attempted burglary in the administrative areas of Abovyan city and Mayakovski village.

The circumstances are under investigation. The suspect has provided a confession and has been arrested. The preliminary investigation is ongoing.
