16-Year-Old Boy Accused of Murdering Police Officer May Be Declared Insane

According to the "Joughour" newspaper, a 16-year-old boy accused of murdering a police officer may be declared insane. He is set to be transferred to a psychiatric hospital. In a conversation with the newspaper, his lawyer Sedrak Mkrtchyan stated that a complex forensic psychiatric examination has been appointed to determine his mental competency.

The preliminary investigation revealed that prior to the murder of the police officer, the boy had been registered at one of the psychiatric hospitals.

Recall that police officers from the Arabkir Police Department pursued two brothers born in 2003 and 2001, who had fled their notice, on the night of October 16 on Azatutyan Avenue. One of them seized the service pistol of one of the officers and shot and killed 38-year-old police officer Tigran Arakelyan.

The law enforcement agencies also discovered that before the murder, the brothers had committed theft from a beauty salon. It was also established that the younger brother had been begging during the day and stealing with his older brother at night.
